Dixie is a country girl from just outside of Tallahassee, FL born Jan 24, 2000. She is a member of the family, she goes where we go. Dixie is a hard worker, loves the water and retrieving. We entered Dixie in her first Junior Hunt Test Nov. 4th and 5th 2000 (9 months old). We wanted to see where we stood in training. She ran like the wind to the first mark, looked at the duck, looked around for a bumper then ran back to me with out the bird.
We took one of the ducks from the first round back and dropped it in front of her. I told her to pick it up, she looked at the duck then looked at me, she then without missing a beat picked up the bird, came to heel and waited until I took it from her. That afternoon when everyone else had ran their final leg; they let us try a water retrieve. Needless to say it was a great run. Nov. 5th She ran the same course. This time Dixie scored a perfect 10. The judges commented on how well she did. Dixie has continued to do well in her training, and we will be competing this spring. On March 10 and 11 Dixie competed in 2 AKC Junior Hunt Test in Patrick, SC were she received 2 qualifying scores. On March 24th 2001 in Elkin, NC Dixie earned her JH (Junior Hunt) title.
Dixie hunted with us on Lake Okeechobee where she did great. Even in the heavy cattails she found the birds. We see a wonderful future for Dixie.
